Description
The Mach V Header Heat Shield for Subaru EJ motors solves a problem that comes with adding an aftermarket header to a 2008+ WRX STI. The problem is that heat from an un-shielded header can cook -- or at worst even melt or burn -- the factory plastic heat shield, and then the AVCS wiring and solenoid on the right side of the engine. We've seen road race cars that had all the plastic and insulation melt off the wiring on that side of the engine. Some cars have actually caught the whole wiring harness on fire.
The Mach V EJ Header Heat Shield solves this problem. The all-stainless steel shield clips and bolts on to the right side of the block just like the stock plastic shield, guarding the plastic cam cover and wiring harness from radiant heat from the header. (It uses the factory bolt.) We highly recommend adding a Mach V heat shield any time you replace the stock manifold with an aftermarket header. We guarantee it'll fit with the Prosport header, as shown; it will probably fit most other aftermarket headers, but be prepared to trim or adjust the heat shield as needed if it's not a Prosport model.
