Rays is the premier wheel manufacturer in Japan, and these Rays Formula Nut II (FN-II) lug nuts live up to the Rays reputation for quality and beauty. In a single fastener design you get tough construction, beautiful appearance, and theft resistance.
In terms of strength, the Formula Nut II lug nuts are constructed from forged SCM435 ChroMoly steel that light but also extremely strong. A hardened steel lug tool ensures you won't have problems with deformation of either the lut nut nor the tool
As is appropriate for a fastener that might be used on some very special wheels, these lug nuts have an free-spinning aluminum seat that sits against the wheel. This rotating seat allows the lug nut to tighten against the wheel without grinding into the paint finish, reducing the chance of chipping or peeling of the wheel finish near the lug nut seats. Note that that aluminum seat is not made of just any random material -- it's aerospace-grade 7075, one of the strongest and hardest aluminum alloys.
Now let's talk about theft resistance. The outside of the FN-II lug nuts are almost completely round and smooth; you cannot remove them with any kind of normal socket. The INTERNAL shape looks like standard hex design, but on closer inspection you will find it's a HEPTAGON -- a seven-sided shape that again cannot be removed with any normal hex key.
For protection of the lug nuts from weather and impurities, each lug nut has an anodized 6016 aluminum threaded cap that seals out water and dust with an O-ring. A little Torx tool is included to install and remove the caps.
The steel lug nuts are finished in a tough black coating with a laser-engraved Rays logo, while the aluminum seats and caps are anodized red or blue. Note that although these surface finishes are tough, we can't warranty the surface treatment against scratches or fading. Anodized red finishes are particularly susceptible to fading when exposed to UV light. Treat them with care and keep them out of the sun if you want the colored finish to stay bright and nice.
Even the packaging delights us: These lug nuts come in a little plastic tub with a locking lid that you could re-use for garage or desktop storage.
As with any custom wheel fastener, we recommend using HAND TOOLS ONLY to install and remove these. No impact tools! Torque to the normal tightness as specified by your car's owner's manual.
Overall length of the lug nuts is 45mm. The diameter is a super-slim 21mm, so they work great on wheels with narrow lug nut wells. According to our measurements you could have the lug studs stick out as much as 32mm from the wheel without bottoming out on the lug nut cap. Thread pitch is M12 x 1.25; seats are standard 60-degree taper.
Complete Subaru-fitment kit includes the 20 lug nuts, lug nut tool, and the Torx wrench for the caps. The lug nut tool has a dual hex size so you can use either a 19mm or a 21mm socket on it.
Fits any Subaru car, and other cars with 12mm x 1.25 lug nut pitch, including Scion FR-S and Toyota GR86.
